Dale's Gift

In 1697 a patent of 600 acres was re-issued to William Willett, formerly held by Edward Douglas, Jr., as that part had never been seated and had escheated. This patent had been issued to Lt Col Edward Douglas in the year, 1657, the year that Douglas died. The 1100 acre patent issued to Edward Douglas, Sr. in 1644 remained untainted and was held by William Willett. William Willett still retained the 2000 acre patent, which was on the seaboard side of Northampton Co. This had been assigned to…

Captain William Willett, Gent.

Capt William Willett was ten years of age when his father, John Willett, passed away, and his mother, Elizabeth Douglas Willett, fled the country. It was his grandmother, Isabella Dale and her, then, husband, Rev Thomas Teackle, who provided William Willett with their home until he was of age to accept his inheritance of the Dale plantation. William is listed in the Tithables of 1779-1782 as being in the home of Rev Teackle, Northampton Co. I am sure the Order Books for Northampton Co show…

Lt Col Edward Douglas

I decided to search for Edward Douglas and give his family name a second S. On occasion Edward did use the double S but not on his will. I was suspicious of the Norfolk family as no shred of evidence had been presented.and

I found in Scotland evidence of father and son . At least I think I did.

Edward Douglas, {born 1590)  and Janet Phelane mar August 22, 1613. Dumfermline, Fife, Scotland Parish Register (1561-1700) Andrew Elder mar Janet Pane 11 Nov 1632, hand Isabel.…

Douglas Family

James David Douglas asked if George Douglas of Accomack Co, Virginia was related to our Edward. No. I believe that line has been traced back to its origins. James David asked me about Thomas Hunt. I am a direct descendant of Thomas HuntIII, will 1719, Northampton Co, by his 2) wife Smart Tankred. Smart  Hunt, widow of Thomas Hunt, mar William Webb. It so happens Thomas and Smart named their first son, Hillary. I descend from Thomas Hunt IV, his second son.

Stringer Family

Sarah Joyne was the daughter of John Tankred and Sarah Smart. At the time of her father's death Sarah was six years of age and her siblings were near her age as well. Furthermore Sarah's mother was expecting the birth of a child. There was only one person she could turn to and that was her uncle Col John Stringer Her late husband had no relations. John Tankred came from Yorkshire as a boy. Sarah Tankred;s mother, Mary Stringer, widow of Lt. Col William Andrews, had died in 1660. William…

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
