A collection of historical and genalogical records
Found on Facebook: Anyone from Cocke County, Tennessee? If so have you done any yDNA testing? I was doing some research on William Douglas the gunsmith. Born 1785 in NC. Believed to be one of the sons of John Douglas from Surry County NC. It turns out there are some rifles attributed to William Douglas in the hands of collectors. One message board mentioned there being 3 different gunsmiths by the name of William Douglas during the same period. Two from Cocke County and one from Campbell. I can't help wonder if they are related and possibly all learned their art from a common relative. I joined one of the message boards and plan to message one of the posters that seemed to be knowledgeable about the gunsmiths. It's a long shot but perhaps I can get more info on William.
*William Douglas a gunsmith born 1826 lived in Cocke County,TN and was a grandfather of Larry Douglas His family left Cocke County to go Oklahoma and Texas.

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.
Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.
Professions also help.
'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
