The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

Forebears is a genealogy portal featuring:

  • A geographically indexed and cross-referenced of sources for family history research
  • A dictionary of surname meanings, including information on their geographic distribution
  • News articles and genealogical research advice

The main aim of the site is to bring together the wide variety of genealogical sources available on and off-line and catalogue them; so as to make them easily accessible by researchers looking for records relating to ancestors in a particular town, region or country.

The site was launched on the 20th of June 2012.  The Douglas page Douglas page features the geographical spread of Douglas in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
