Alison,

Try this website: http://www.genealogywise.com/

All the info I have on this photo is on this page, so the mystery is not yet solved.

Fabulous pic and gem of a finding!..Has anyone added any more information since this was posted?Has anyone been able to check his immigration records to the US, or further info?

Do you know for a fact is his middle name is 'Washington'..Just curious, since I'm still searching for my GG Grandfather George William Douglas in Ireland, though at least 10 years earlier than this George . b. 1821.

If anyone is interested, I have some old pics of Thomas Douglas and other family members taken at 'Homebush' Victoria, Australia which at an earlier mistaken endeavor acquired, believing they were my line and would be happy to share...I can't recall all the details at this juncture, but anyone who may be related would know, and can get in touch with me.

Now, a general non-Douglas question..: I've been exceptionally fortunate in securing old pics of my English line for the Filmers and Sowdens in Devon..Is there any website anyone here could refer me to so that that they might be identified?

There is a young George Washington Douglas on this Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=32923986199&set=o.117766...

Is it the same person?

According to my records my great great grandfather was born March 8, 1842 which would have made him 53 at the time this photo was printed.  But I will show it to some of my older cousins and see if they recognize this photo as their great grandfather.

I promise I will get back to you soon.

I have a George Washington Douglas born July 15, 1782 in Chazy NY who married Martha Manning - perhaps the father or grandfather?

Could this be George Washington Douglas?

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
