The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

New material comes my way on a daily basis, and adding this to the Douglas Archives could be a full time business. Sadly, many other responsibilities make this impossible! probably that is just as well.

The genealogy database now has 151,362 Individuals:and 64,109 Families. However, getting these on-line is a major task, so I tend to restrict this to about once a month.

I do try to update the history section every day or two. This is a relatively easy process. Sometimes, these can just be a few corrections, and sometimes it can mean substantial new material going on-line. There are over 3,200 files and 1,600 images; keeping on top of all this is not easy, and I welcome contributions from those of you who let me know when you find something that requires improvement.

The easiest section to work with is the Community Network - but it needs more contributors!

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
