Woolwich Churchyard Monumental Inscriptions

Elizabeth wife of Thomas HOPKINS of the Parish of Plumstead, died 25 March 1839 aged 31. Mr. John DOUGLASS, father of the above, died 2 July 1830 aged 47. Margaret wife of Sergeant Major LAZENBY of the Royal Artillery and daughter of above died 17 January 1846 aged (?41). Also Mary Douglass wife of above died 4 July 1849 aged 84.

 

Elizabeth cannot be 'the above' in all cases, so is John Douglass father of Elizabeth and Margaret, Elizabeth's sister? Whose wife is Mary? John?

 

An earlier memorial is to ...Mary Jane DOUGLASS …. August 1803 aged 26 years

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
