A collection of historical and genalogical records
In a newsletter in July 2022 (See link below), we exlored the possibility that the Douglases were decended from ancient Egypt. This was not the first time that the story had surfaced, but as I was then researching the Douglases in Italy, and the story also surfaced there, it seemed appropriate to investigate.
Of course, this is many centuries ago, and although the Egyptians have records going back that far in time, the Europeans do not, so the story has passed verbally from generation to generation until such time as a seanachaidh, a recorder and reciter of family history and genealogy, put the events to paper.
Now Luke Eastwood, who is an accomplished author who began writing poetry at the age of 15, tells the story. Luke writes primarily on spirituality and contributes articles to various websites and magazines, addressing topics such as environmental and social issues alongside spirituality. Over the years, he has pursued a multifaceted career, including roles as a musician, graphic designer, artist, photographer, and horticulturist. He is also a dedicated Druid and an active member of several spiritual organizations. Since 1998, he has made Ireland his home.
Luke's new book, Scotia: Lost Sister of Tutankhamun, tells of a nation under threat and a dynasty facing collapse under a much-hated, heretic king. Tracing the Amarna Egyptian royal family from Akhenaten through to Tutankhamun and the final Pharaoh Horemheb, this narrative unfolds a picture of a dynasty ensnared in religious controversy and dramatic upheaval. The book delves into the mysterious deaths of the dynasty’s pharaohs and the flight of one of its last queens, an older sister of the ill-fated Tutankhamun, as she fled Egypt and journeyed through Spain, Scotland, and ultimately to the West of Ireland, where her story comes to a tragic end.
His book includes a transcription of The Declaration of Arbroath, signed by James - Lord of Douglas amongst others, tells:how Scotland came to be:
that crossing from Greater Scythia, via the Tyrhennian Sea and the Pillars of Hercules, and living in Spain among the fiercest tribes for many years, it could be conquered by no one anywhere, no matter how barbarous the tribes. Afterwards, coming from there, one thousand two hundred years from the Israelite people’s crossing of the Red Sea, to its home in the west, which it now holds, having first thrown out the Britons and completely destroyed the Picts, and even though it was often attacked by the Norse, the Danes and the English, it fought back with many victories and countless labours and it has held itself ever since, free from all slavery, as the historians of old testify. In their own kingdom, one hundred and thirteen kings have reigned of their own Blood Royal, without interruption by foreigners.
Whether the Scotia: Lost Sister of Tutankhamun helps solve the conundrum is a moot point.
It is available for sale on a number of websites.

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.
Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.
Professions also help.
'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
