William Willes Douglas (1860 - 1922) started off his career in Malaya as an Inspector in the Perak Armed Police in 1878. He was stationed in Perak and Negeri Sembilan in various posts, including Superintendent of Police and Prisons Negeri Sembilan (1881) and Collector and Magistrate in Port Dickson (1891). After a two-year term as District Officer of Klang (1895-97), he was appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police in Perak (he was involved in the first Durbar in Kuala Kangsar) and rose to become Commissioner of Police FMS in December 1909, serving until 1916. He is said to have had a deep understanding of the Malay police officers and always considered their interests. He was also known as a keen hunter who kept a pack of thoroughbreed hounds for the purpose.
After 38 years of service, Douglas retired to Johor and passed away in Singapore. His father, Captain Bloomfield Douglas, was the British Resident of Selangor from 1875 to 1882.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
