The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

A history of the Douglas family whose Ulster roots are from Lurgan, Co. Armagh, Northern Ireland and surrounding Townlands

Two or three years ago, I was given a folder of files made up of the extensive research carried out and transcribed by Mavis Douglas and Jennifer Douglas.

A history of the Douglas family whose Ulster roots are from Lurgan,... has lurked in my archives for me to dip into when responding to queries about Irish ancestry.

It has always been my intention to publish as a book and make it available for researchers to access. However, at around 900 pages, I have never had the resources to do that. Now, I have brought the files together with an index linked to the chapters.

I hope that this will prove useful to the many who are seeking their Irish ancestors, and I am most grateful to Mavis and Jennifer for their contribution to our understanding of the Douglas families in and from Ireland.

I would be really interested to read this document, but none of the links seem to work. Is there another way I can link to this document.

I found one broken link which I am working towards fixing, but the others seem OK

William

OOps! Two - I have just found another

I'm using Safari and it says it can't connect. I may need to try another browser.

The 'Mavis Book' is a collection of pdfs.  Could that be the problem?  I have not yet corrected the broken links, but hope to get to that today.

Very boring for you, I know!

Is it possible to Dropbox some of the PDF's to me. Particularly those of Moses Douglas and his children. I don't know if they are relevant to me, but I am certain there is a Lurgan connection in my family and would like to follow it up.  My email address is rob-rob@westnet.com.au

Thanks William,

All the links on this page appear to be working now.  Please let me know if they are not!

Got it, thankyou.  I'll read with interest

Rob

William, I suspect that our family doesn't link with Moses Douglas family, but you may be interested in reading the story of my family research: https://au.blurb.com/b/9049889-finding-henry

I also visited Belfast early this year, and the photo book continues the story:

Hi Rob

Curious what your Douglas connections are in Ireland? Looks like you don't think that our families are connected?

Jenni Douglas

Wonderful book and I've saved it for future reading and reference.    I do appreciate being able to save books like this.   THANK YOU for doing such a wonderful job on the links.

--Thank you, Joiyn.  William

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
