Douglas families in Ireland

Researching members of the Douglas family in Ireland is notoriously difficult.  So many records have been destroyed, and the families often moved on to America, or elsewhere. This group is for those tracing their ancestors in Ireland.See More

Profile Information

Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
Jaime Douglas-my great-grandmother. Her parents immigrated to the United States from Cork County, Ireland. The last name was changed from O'Douglass to Douglas when her parents moved here. I'm looking for my great-great grandparents from Cork County, Ireland, with the last name of O'Douglass. Jaime was the first American born with this name but her parents had this ancestor. My Dad, Melvin Drake is Jaime's grandson.
Who is your earliest known Douglas ancestor?

I note you worked out how to join the Irish group.  Do ask if you need further help.

Welcome to our group, Rebecca.

You might like to join the Irish group, where you can link with others connected with Ireland.

I would be keen to learn more about your O'Douglass ancestors.

Yours aye,

William

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
