"Think there is a mistake on HMS Odin in the Med for the Crimean War; RN references to it in the War place it in the Balkans 1854-55. By the way, Bessie Henrietta Douglas was born 12 Oct 1852, William Sholto Douglas was born 18 Dec 1854 (d. Jul…"

Welcome to our group, Richard.

Maginis (or Magennis) is certainly a name the Douglas family of Devrock use.

My knowledge of the family is very sketchy, as you will have seen: http://www.douglashistory.co.uk/history/families/douglas_of_devrock.html  Your DNA evidence may throw more light into this dark corner. I certainly hope so.

Yours aye,

William

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
