 Thanks for the message

From the various Douglas archives posts it looks as though your researches are more wide ranging and interesting than my own which go back to within five miles of where I an sitting at present.

On the face of it quite simple originating in a marriage between a Janet Douglas and a Robert Cochrane in 1707. Beyond that however difficult confirming anything with certainty.

Thank you.

I should probably just confirm that  this information arose from a review of Douglas marriages - it just turned out that there were quite a few Murray ones there all with connections to the Edinburgh Legal fraternity.

One thing that may not be generally known about the Pringle name is that it was originally Hoppringle and relates to a border family which held land around Galashiels for centuries - and still does

This web site will have more about the subject than I could say.

Hi Russell Lynn,

Thank you for your message! I noticed that your earliest ancestor is William Drysdale, Dunfermline area. My earliest is James Drysdale, born 1821 in what is now called Dalgety Bay, just south of Dunfermline. James' first born son was named William. Years later, he was apparently living with his wife Ann at Malcolm's Beath Farm, Dunfermline. I think therefore that there is a good chance we have a connection from that region.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
