The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

The descendants of William Douglas, b1610 and his wife Anne Mattie have been searching for clues to their ancestry beyond the 17th century for many years.

One researcher, Nigel Douglas has assembled a large collection of documents during his research.  He did not find the holy grail, but the names and links he identified are essential clues for others who are trawling through Northamptonshire births, marriages and deaths seeking links that might lead further.

The Douglas Archives now includes those files which have been collated into a new section:

If anyone has additional material that they would like included, please do share.

I attach the 3 family trees that I produced some time ago. You will note that the William Douglas that you refer to is included along with his father and grandfather with the same name , albeit with different spellings.Family%20tree%20douglas%20%231%20mod.pdf  Family%20tree.%20Douglas%232.pdf Family%20tree%20douglas%20%233.pdf

I have done some research on my ancestors starting with William Douglas of Easton Maudit c.1565, moving to Harrold in Bedfordshire in 1773 and then to Kettering in Northamptonshire (my own birthplace) c.1905. Can the tree that I have produced be of any use? Where does Nigel fit in this tree?

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
